Lex101 Law Reform Research Paper

Introduction:
Few of the key reasons which lead to violation of human rights are inequality and discrimination. This is faced by many vulnerable groups and particularly by the LGBT community. This community consist of individuals who have a different sexual orientation. The inequality or discrimination is due to the fact the homophobic attitudes have been deeply embedded in the society which makes them victims of mistreatment, torture, sexual assault and even death. Simply because they have a different sexual preference. Additionally, states have laws in existence which in fact criminalize homosexuality making the acts of violence legal. It is important that the issues faced by LGBTs are recognized so that effective change can be brought within the State to ensure that provisions of Universal Declaration of Human Rights relating to being free and dignity are satisfied. This essay begins by laying down various provisions of international treaties which have touched upon this issue. It is identified how these very provisions are being violated in the real world. An attempt is also made to inform how LGBTs community can use these provisions to lobby for their rights. Further, legislative provisions back home are identified. It is seen that major progress has been made in Australia yet some shortcomings remain. A recommendation is also suggested which is hoped to resolve the issues. In the end, a brief conclusion would follow.
