Gerontological/Aged care: Principles of Nursing Management Required for Older
Introduction
Over the years the greatest challenge in healthcare has been the provision of prime care for senior citizens with multiple chronic illness. More than 50% of the citizens have more than three chronic illnesses. The individuals are noteworthy concerning access to health care services. In most cases, they utilize more than 50 of inpatient facilities in the healthcare industries. The majority of their conditions are connected to many adverse consequences, including disability, death, low quality of life, and greater use of health care resources (McDonald, Roberts & Inder 2018, p. 183-194). Widespread approaches for distribution of healthcare that are not disease specific and interventions that target such circumstances are common in the field of medicine and they appear promising. In healthcare guidelines exist for many conditions, but since most are focused on single diseases, it continues to be a barrier to their application in gerontological care. The majority of professionals do not address the issue of incorporating care for senior citizens in gerontological care. An analysis reveals that principles of nursing care that are applicable to aged care nursing are vital for the improvement of the practice.
The complete spectrum of healthcare management of senior citizens under gerontological care consists of interventions and treatments for their conditions as well as prevention, screening and advanced illness care (Bookey‐Bassett et al. 2017, p. 71-84).
