Literacy Profile and Plan
Introduction
Four Middle Years students named Jarrod, Ellisha, Bryce and Jake were assessed using writing examples, recordings of planning as well as editing during the writing process and assessment of the reading ‘A Call for Change’ by Rachel Wood. The assessment involved an analysis of oral reading whereby the four students were required to read ‘A Call for Change’ by Rachel Wood, have a comprehensive conversation in determining whether the student is able to understand the text appropriately, and finally writing about reading whereby the writing needed to reflect an understanding on the text. The assessment helped in determining the reading and writing needs of the student allowing for the development of learners profiles.
Learner Profiles
Based on the assessment illustrated in the introduction, it was determined that the children share a common need on focusing on creating text which is appropriately planned using key information and supporting details for the audiences. The following table illustrates the strengths and areas of further development which is derived from the assessment conducted on the students. It is important for students to be able to provide and illustrate their writing in a logical manner. This involves effectively introducing the writing, using paragraphs appropriately in developing the body and finally in the writing of an effective conclusion which helps the audience in following the writing.
