Leadership Role of RN in Maintaining Hand Hygiene
Introduction
Role of Registered nurse is very significant in the primary healthcare of Australia. Registered nurses can play a crucial role in maintaining health and providing quality care to patients. The nursing practice performed by registered nurse is specifically patient centered and evidence based. Their practice focuses on providing curative, preventive, restorative, supportive and palliative care to the patients. The emerging role of registered nurses in nurse leadership is also significantly acknowledged because of their professional skills and knowledge. RNs also work by forming therapeutic relationships with patients, families and communities. RN are also able to work in culturally and linguistically diverse environment and provide safe environment to patients for saving them from many hospital acquired infections. Hand hygiene is a very significant infection control procedure in hospitals. Paper will discuss and will demonstrate the integrated knowledge about hand hygiene, risks associated with lack of hand hygiene and patient safety. This information will be followed with the discussion of critical incident, where patient was exposed to risk and leadership role of RN to maintain patient safety.
