In the figure above, different types of information systems are described. The apex or top level includes EIS and DSS. The functional level is MIS while the operational level is TPS. The purpose of the report is to evaluate the information management system, determine the strengths and weaknesses of the system and eventually propose suggestions for a new one. The organisation taken is PEPSICO. Being a large company, the organisation has a well-developed Management Information System in order to manage the data effectively. As per (Broderick and Boudreau, 2002), Management Information System is defined as the study of people, technology and organisation. It is also defined as the system to focus on the management of information systems to provide efficiency and effectiveness of the strategic decision making. A management information system, commonly referred to as MIS has been an evolving concept and technology in the business world. Academic and scholarly definitions state MIS to be a computerized database of sorted and well organized financial information that is programmed in such a fashion that regular operational reports are developed for management purpose within a company (Broderick and Boudreau, 2002). One can get special reports using the system as well but the central purpose of MIS is to provide managers with sufficient feedback on how they have fared and how the top management can work better to monitor company resources and revenue betterment comprehensively.
