Group Processes and Dynamics

The Australian Counselling Association (ACA) (2019) code of ethics, practitioners have an ethical obligation of promoting client safety by taking reasonable steps towards participating in multi-disciplinary teams. Our group was made up of four members who each assumed a unique role and responsibility to help achieve the objectives of the group. Two members adopted thinking roles to facilitate thinking and problem solving while the other member assumed the task role to influence the group’s commitment to implementation and completion of the assignment (Belbin, 1993). Leadership and negotiation skills played an important role in the group process. In the initial stages of the group formation, the group members begun developing anxiety, mistrust and competitive behavior which initially triggered conflict.
